Tarangire National Park is a safari park that stretches for 2,600 sq. km and is home to a variety of wildlife and natural spectacles. The park was named after the Tarangire River which flows through its land and functions as a main water source for the animals that congregate there. The park is situated in the Manyara Region and is most widely known for its significant elephant population and migratory animals. The Tarangire landscape consists of river valleys and swampland, these swamps often allowing visitors to experience intimate viewing encounters of the elephants that converge there.
Tarangire National Park is most easily recognized due to its many acacia and baobab trees that are scattered throughout the park. Giraffe, leopard, cheetah, lion, wildebeest, and roughly 550 species of bird can be found within the park. Annually, during the dry season, large populations of up to 300 elephants can be found roaming the land in search of water.
The East Africa Wild offers a range of Tarangire National Park Holidays and we have a dedicated team of destination specialists who are a mine of information, often with first-hand travel experience. Famous For Big Herds Of Elephants, Baobab Trees, And Tree Climbing Lions
There are too many things to explore in Africa but what are the special things makes Tarangire National Park unique? Let’s find out….
Tarangire National Park is noted as a safari destination for its elephant population and spectacular baobabs of every shape and color. The park's name is derived from the Tarangire River, the park's only source of permanent water. In the dry season, this river is the lifeline, attracting much of the game. Huge herds of elephant, zebra, buffalo, wildebeest and rhino and lion enjoy this terrain and are frequently seen. The Tarangire Park is also synonymous with two of the rarer game species; the greater kudu and the Fringe-eared Oryx. In addition, leopard and tree-climbing pythons often inhabit the trees. Due to the low volume of traffic in the park, the game is wild, being unaccustomed to vehicles, this offers a truly unique experience for guests on the Full Game Package, two game viewing drives in open-topped 4WD vehicles are included in the package. Large herds of antelope of all sorts including: eland, lesser kudu, Kongoni, impala, Zebra, gazelles, buffalo, wildebeest, leopard, elephant, rhino and lots of smaller mammals.
